Instructions for Request Letter

People who habitually ignore the rules may have their email request denied or their USPS mail returned unfilled.

How many tapes will I copy for you and how often?

As of 10 July 2000, you must wait until you receive your tapes before submitting another email request.

When you receive your tapes, you may send me an email message which includes includes everything it did before, as well as your last request number. I will use that information to determine the priority for approving requests using some algorithm. In this way I hope to make things fairer for people who have requested tapes before, instead of the previous system which made it easier for new requesters to get tapes.

If this works correctly, the number of requests should be fairly self-regulating--with the frequency of requests per person decreasing as the number of requesters goes up. Which is what you would expect in a system where the absolute number of requests stays constant.

Since international postage costs are so high, and the marginal cost of increasing the weight of the package is small, international requesters may request either 6 or 3 tapes without special approval. Please read the section on International rules for details. International requestors may submit another request when they receive tapes.

How do I get reimbursed for the tapes?

VHS

3 VHS Tapes in plastic boxes $20.50

Note: the reimbursement for VHS T120 and VHS T160 tapes is the same.

International requesters should read the section on how many tapes can be requested.

SuperVHS

SVHS copies are always limited to 3 at a time, so please don't ask for more.

NOTE: SuperVHS tapes will not play on a normal VHS player.
Some higher end VCRs will play them back at VHS quality, but you need to check your owner's manual if you think yours may have this capability. Read the section on SuperVHS Tapes for more details.

1. 3 Consumer Fuji T-120 SuperVHS: $34.00.

Please add $3 for each T-160 SuperVHS tape.
The TDK SuperVHS T-160 tapes that I use cost $3 more than the Consumer Fuji T-120.
So, the Gundam 0083 series on Consumer Fuji, which consists of 2 T120 and 1 T-160 tape would require a $37 reimbursement.
2. 3 Professional Fuji T120 SuperVHS (H471S) tapes: $42

For H471S requests, please add $1.00 for each T-160 SuperVHS tape because the price difference between the H471 and TDK T160 is less. So, the Gundam 0083 series on Fuji H471, which consists of 2 T120 and 1 T-160 tape would require a $43 reimbursement.

What to send

1. Your approval number (that you got when your email request was approved)
2. Your previous approval number (see below if this is your first request)
3. titles you wish to receive
4. specify sleeves or boxes
5. your name
6. mailing address
7. email address
8. self-addressed, adhesive label with the return address filled in with Jae D. Roh's address
9. A check from a US bank, or a money order payable to Jae D. Roh

All Funds must be in US Dollars.

Email approval

If you have requested from me before, please use the the subject
" Fansub Request Repeat "
and include your last request number in your email.

In either case, the email message should include all the information that is listed above for inclusion in the letter.

You will get an acknowledgment when I receive your email. The acknowledgment is not an approval. The approval will come later.

The above email links may not work for non-standard browsers such as AOL (and possibly Microsquish Explorer) which don't recognize subject specifications in the mailto tag. So, you should be able to use this link. Be sure to use the proper subject line for the message.

Messages sent to the address jae.d.roh at teradyne.com with the proper subject line will automatically be put in the list of requests waiting for approval, and will cause an acknowledgment to be mailed back to you. Messages sent to different addresses or with different subject lines will take longer to be acknowledged, and therefore will be placed further back in the queue.

1. Sending me email is a commitment to follow up with a mail request after you are approved. If you don't follow up with a letter, I may have been forced turned away other people whose requests I could have accepted instead of yours, and I will have wasted time keeping track of a phantom request.



2. Please try to follow up with a letter within 1-2 weeks after your request is approved and you are given a request number.



3. If you need to change the titles in your request, include the new titles in your letter. Now, since I did not have a chance to approve the specific titles, it is even more important that you include a list of alternates. Because, if one or more of your requested titles is not available, I will have to delay the request until I do get an alternate title from you.

When I open your letter, I will send you an email confirmation. I usually open letters in batches. So it may be a few days after I get your letter before I open your letter.

I don't have a good way of sending you confirmation when I mail out tapes, but I will post the status of batches in the News section of the web page.

How to send it.

Please do not send Express Mail (Next Day) letters or FedEx or anything else that requires a signature for delivery. There is rarely anyone home to sign for packages, and these services typically require a signature for delivery.

Express mail will save you a day or two at most, they cost $10 more. Save the money for more fansubs. What is more likely, is that I won't get to the post office to pick up the letter for up to a week after it arrives, since that is typically how often I go to mail out fansub packages.

Priority mail is just 1st class mail for packages, so the approximately $3 extra you spend on postage just pays for the cardboard envelope. It doesn't get to me any faster.

If you insist on sending an Express Mail letter, you MUST check the box that says "WAIVER OF SIGNATURE" so that the mailman may leave the letter in my mailbox... (rather than forcing someone to pick up the letter at the post office.) Personally, I'd rather spend the extra money getting more Anime.

Where to send it.

The address for mailing your request letter will be included in the email that you get when your request is approved.

Please remember to also put this address in the "From" section of the the adhesive mailing label that your are sending me.
