PCD1/2 REV B SPECIFICATION (C) MVS 1996 DESCRIPTION ----------- The PCD1 has an IDE drive interface and works with ATA compatible PCMCIA, Compact FLASH, or Hard Disks. Since the PCD1 interfaces at the BIOS level all operating systems are supported and can boot from the PCD1. It is also available with 8-bit ISA (PCD1a) and PC104 (PCD1b) to allow use of PC compatible removeable media with MVS SBC controllers. A "STAMP DRIVE" model (SDRV1) works with any controller, big or small, with a serial port. The PCD2 dual slot AT type 16-bit ISA adapter is for use with motherboards running DOS or Windows. RAM up to 64mbyte, ATA FLASH up to 1 gigabyte, and many I/O cards are supported. Convenient pushbutton ejector mechanisms allow easy extraction of cards for removeable media applications. Both cards work with the newer "Compact Flash" type cards with an appropriate adapter. This is usually included with the card, camera, or palmtop or can be purchased separately. The thinner and somewhat less expensive "Smart Card" type memory is also supported with an adapter. PCD1 INSTALLATION ----------------- Plug the PCD1 into any open IDE connector taking care to match pin 1 on the card (near power connector) with pin 1 on the cable (colored edge). Next Plug a floppy power connector into the card, again taking care to match pin 1 (near edge of card) with the cable pin 1 (red wire). To set the card for master short the jumper otherwise the card will be slave. Most motherboards use "auto" settings to detect card size so usually nothing else needs to be done except FDISK and FORMAT like a normal hard drive. PCD2 INSTALLATION ----------------- PCD2 runs without drivers under Windows 98 and with a driver (PCD2.BIN) under DOS. The DOS driver is very compact and takes about 1/10th the memory of more common "socket services" type drivers. To install: in CONFIG.SYS use "devicehigh=pcd2.bin /ac800 /p1" for outer slot use "devicehigh=pcd2.bin /acc00 /p0" for inner slot or put both lines in for 2 slots. It may be necessary to exclude the "/axxxx" address segment in BIOS and with EMM386.EXE. If used with ATI All-In-Wonder capture card under DOS it may be necessary to reconfigure the ATI card due to address conflicts. SPECS ----- PCD1: slot: single type IV ATA size: 4.75"h x 3.5"w x .5"t (same form factor as MVSBC1/MVSEX1) power: 5v @ 2ma PCD2: slots: dual type II or single type IV size: 4.3"h x 6.3"w x .5"t (not counting standard PC type mounting bracket) power: 5v @ 20milliamps WARRANTY -------- MVS will repair free of charge boards suffering from manufacturing defects for a period of 5 years. This will be done only if it has been determined by MVS that the product has not been misused (improper voltages, physical alteration, etc.). Otherwise a minimum service charge is required. In either case it is necessary to contact MVS for a Returned Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number before shipping the unit.
