REMOTE POWER CARD - PHONE VERSION This is a 1/4 slot card for the PC or SBC which allows the computer to be powered up or down with a telephone call. Used with a modem, the RPCP can be used to retrieve files or actually log in and use the computer from a remote location. Unattended FAX and/or BBS transfers are also possible. It is not necessary to leave the computer on all the time which wastes power and reduces the life of the hardware. A special dialing sequence is used so the RPCP coexists with answering machines, FAX, and voice. To access the computer remotely let the line ring once then hang up for 40 seconds and dial again. The computer will be powered up and can then answer the phone with a FAX, modem, or voice mail card. A 1 is then written to the Turn-on Register (default=180h) to prevent subsequent phone calls from having any effect. When the program is done the computer is shut off again by writing to the Shut-down Register (default=181h). Other AC appliances can be controlled instead of the computer if needed. DC voltages and relays can also be controlled via on-board sink and source transistors. The power can be jumpered to turn on or turn off at terminal count. REMOTE POWER CARD - TIMER VERSION This card is similar to the RPCP but instead of controlling power with a phone call, a timer is used. Late night modem downloads and shutting the computer off after a lengthy backup procedure are typical applications. Another use involves stretching battery life in datalogging systems by powering up periodically to take a reading then shutting down. Time delays are programmable as follows: 4m=22-14 30-29 Jumpers: 1/16s=22-14 28-29 8m=22-15 30-29 J9 10 11 12 13 14 15 1/8s=22-15 28-29 16m=22-21 30-29 o o o o o o o 1/4s=22-21 28-29 32m=22-20 30-29 o o o o o o o 1/2s=22-20 28-29 1h=22-19 30-29 J16 17 18 19 20 21 22 1s=22-19 28-29 2h=22-11 30-29 2s=22-11 28-29 4h=22-16 30-29 Address and polarity 4s=22-16 28-29 8h=22-18 30-29 jumpers are the same 8s=22-18 28-29 16h=22-12 30-29 as for the RPCP card. 16s=22-12 28-29 32h=22-13 30-29 The 34 pin connector 32s=22-13 28-29 64h=22-10 30-29 has the same pinout. 64s=22-10 28-29 128h=22-17 30-29 2m=22-17 28-29 256h=22-9 30-29 LIMITED WARRANTY MVS will repair free of charge product suffering from manufacturing defects for a period of 5 years after shipping. This will be done only if it has been determined by MVS that the product has not been misused (improper voltages, physical alteration, etc.). Otherwise a minimum service charge is required. In either case it is necessary to contact MVS for a Returned Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number before shipping the unit.
